Shot Calc is now free for the NDT community

Shot Calc social card with the Superior Shot Calculator logo over a radiography beam diagram and pipe, with the address shotcalc.superiorintegrity.com.

Shot Calc is now public. Superior Integrity Services built it for radiographers and made it free to use. Open it on a phone or desktop at shotcalc.superiorintegrity.com. No account is required.

The calculator handles the planning math behind each shot:

  • Gamma exposure estimates from source activity, material, film, and distance.
  • X-ray exposure estimates between points on your approved technique chart.
  • Source decay, inverse-square adjustments, and geometric unsharpness.

Source records you save stay in your browser. After the first successful load, the app works offline, and you can install it on your device.

Shot Calc is a planning tool for trained personnel. SIS Level III reviewed the app and its reference data. Check every input and result against the procedure and technique chart that apply to your work. Shot Calc does not authorize an exposure or set a radiation boundary, and it does not replace your RSO, your survey instruments, or an independent timer.

Read the Shot Calc overview for what it covers and where its limits are. SIS provides NDT and pipeline integrity services across Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and North Dakota. If you want to work with the people who built the tool, browse our current openings.
